PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Volunteers needed for basic trail maintenance, reconstruction, brushing and tread repair. The East Shore Trail is a 4.5 mile loop easily accessible from Grand Lake. This project is suitable for all skill levels.

PROJECT DETAILS

Meeting Time and Place: Due to limited parking at the trailhead, please meet at 9AM Saturday June 25th at the pavilion in Town Square Park in Grand Lake (1025 Grand Ave, Grand Lake, CO 80447) and we will carpool to the Trailhead. Camping will be available to volunteers Friday evening at Shadow Mountain Reservoir

Directions to the Meeting Place: Pavilion in Town Square Park: From US-34 drive east into Grand Lake 0.2 mile and take a right onto W Portal Drive. Drive another 0.3 mile to take a slight right onto Grand Ave for 0.6 mile, arrive at 1025 Grand Ave, Grand Lake, CO 80447. Please find a parking space and meet at the Pavilion.

Directions to the Trailhead: Grand Lake/East Shore Trailhead: Head west on Grand Ave toward Garfield St for 0.2 mile. Turn left at the 3rd cross street onto Vine St for 384 ft. Turn right onto Lake Ave for 118 ft then take a Slight left onto Cairns St for 0.4 mi. Turn right onto Lakeside Dr for 0.1 mi then Turn left onto Jerico Rd, turn right across the bridge and drive .5 mile to the stop sign at Shoreline Landing. Turn left and you will see the parking area at the dead end road Off State Highway 28, turn north onto County Road 5-13/ (see map for details)

Vehicle Requirements: 2WD to meeting/project site

Elevation: Work Site Elevation is >8500”

Weather: Prepare for the extremes of cold and heat and the possibility of high wind and thunderstorms. Volunteers will be notified if inclement weather is expected to affect the project.

Hiking Distance: Easy-Moderate. Hike up to 4 miles on uneven ground, less than 1000′ elevation gain or loss and carry up to 2 tools

Work Difficulty: Easy-Moderate. There will be a variety of tools and tasks including establishing trail tread, restoration, potential sign installation and trail inventory

Nearest Town: Grand Lake, CO

What’s Provided: Tools, project materials, work site supervision, qualified 1st aid personnel, safety equipment and water. A reception with light refreshments will immediately follow the project.

Food and Water: Volunteers are responsible for lunch and snacks. CDTC will provide water as needed. You need to have capacity to carry 3-4 quarts water to worksite. Potable water will be available at the campsite.

9:00 am Meet at Downtown Picnic Pavilion (1025 Grand Ave, Grand Lake, CO 80447)

9:15 am Carpool to the East Shore Trail Head

9:30 am Brief overview of the project(s) and safety meeting.

9:45 am Hike to project site(s)

10:00 am-3:00 pm Trail Maintenance

3:30 pm Return to trailhead

4:00 pm Afternoon reception

Project scope and work may change due to land agency planning and funding. Schedules are flexible and dependant on the condition and energy level of the volunteers. Frequent breaks are encouraged. CDTC encourages volunteers to work within their limitations and take care of themselves during the project. Please check the weather in your project area prior to leaving for the project and pack accordingly
