Humbled by the towering Pintlers, situated in a mile-high valley in the Deer Lodge National Forest, Anaconda presents unsurpassed recreational opportunities just outside town in any direction. The town sprang up when the giant Anaconda Copper Mining Company of Butte needed a smelter for its vast amounts of copper ore. Smelting operations were suspended in 1980, but “The Stack” remains an important landmark and state park.

The closest international airport to Anaconda is Missoula (MSO) which is about 1 hour and 45 minutes away via I-90 East. The Bert Mooney airport (BTM) is the closet airport to Anaconda, about 30 minutes away via I-90 West and MT-1 North. It is serviced by Delta Airlines and has a direct flight from Salt Lake City, Utah.
