As a grand finale to our Hikes for the Gila events, do we have an amazing adventure for you! Join hike leaders CDTC Executive Director Teresa Martinez and Leia Barnett from WildEarth Guardians for a fun and adventurous hike starting from the Mineral Creek Trailhead on the Glenwood Ranger District, followed by a meal at the Silver Creek Inn provided by the amazing proprietors Kathy Knapp and Stan King. The meal will be followed by heading to the Cosmic Campground to participate in the amazing Star Party being hosted by the Dark Sky International Group (and camping out for those who would like to stay the night).
Hike Description: This hike will culminate in a full day exploring the heart of the Gila with our partners from Wild Earth Guardians and friends who are members of the Chiricahua Apache.
The hike will introduce participants to the cultural significance of the region for the Indigenous people who have called this place home since time immemorial and who call it home today. We will also learn about the efforts to continue to ensure the Gila remains undeveloped and protected for future generations, and also we will learn about efforts to re-introduce the Mexican Grey Wolf and its significance to the region.
CDTC will provide a late lunch in partnership with the Silver Creek Inn.
The day will end with participation in the Cosmic Campground Star Party (RSVP is required by May 2).
